While Asari clams are sweet and chewy, they are widely enjoyed steamed. Little does everyone know, these clams are an amazing ingredient and can raise a simple miso soup to the next level. Adding these heightens the flavor of the humble soup and make it even more delicious! What's more, the added protein and nutrition is a bonus!
Asari Clam Miso Soup Recipe
- 450gm Asari clams
- 2 cups water
- 1 piece kombu (or substitute with a dash of dashi stock base)
- 2 Tbsp miso
- Green onion/scallion (finely sliced)
Preparations:
1. Thoroughly clean Asari clams by rinsing them under running water.
2. In a medium sized pot, add the clean clams, 2 cups (480 ml) water, and kombu. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
3. Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat to a medium-low.
4. Skim away white blubbly scum off surface using fine mesh skimmer.
5. When all the clams opened up, turn off heat immediately and do not overcook. Remove and discard the kombu.
6. Dissolve 2 Tbsp miso paste into the soup.
7. Garnish with finely sliced green onions to serve and you are ready to dig in!
